Caillou. Big cuz. Its ya birthday and I got a lot to say so sit down.
Me and this man been through it. Not in a cute way. In a real way. He the older one, so when we was little he got to be right about everything and I got to be mad about it. He taught me how to ride a bike by letting go early. He taught me how to lie to grown folks by doing it in front of me. He taught me what a hard head look like from the inside, cause I got one too and I got it from watching him.
And then we got grown and it got complicated. Yall know how it go. There was a stretch where we did not talk. I aint gone say how long and I aint gone say why, cause thats ours. But it was long enough that I had to hear about his life from other people, and I hated that. I hated hearing he was doing good and not being the one he told. I hated hearing he was doing bad and not being the one he called.
We fixed it. Took a while. Took a funeral, if I am being honest, cause thats usually what it take in this family. Somebody gotta go before everybody remember they love each other. And when we finally stood in the same room again he looked at me and said what took you so long, like I was the one. I let him have that. He the older one. He get to be right.
Now look at us. Look at this picture. Floor seats, him in the Kangol with the chains on, me in the braids cheesing like I aint never been mad at him a day in my life. And the video of him in the car doing his waves on his birthday morning like he got somewhere to be. He do got somewhere to be. He been busy. Ask anybody.
So this what I want to say and then I am done. I am proud of you. I watched you fall and get up more than once and I watched you do it without asking nobody for nothing. Whatever you building, keep building it. The people who counted you out gone have to watch, and I am gone be right there in the front making sure they do.
Happy birthday Caillou. Show ya ass. Fuck ya mean.
Love you cuz. For real this time.
